The Ontario Heritage Act is a provincial governing body that allows the province or local municipality to designate certain properties or districts as cultured heritage. These homes and neighhourhoods represent a physical legacy from our history that is to be maintained for the benefit of future generations.
The City of Toronto has various historically significant districts and properties. Rosedale, for example, has been separated into North Rosedale and South Rosedale, with each area designated as a heritage conservation district. This means the municipality protects the overall look, quality and landscape of homes, as well as future demolitions or non-conforming alterations inside the districts. If you have ever strolled through the gorgeous winding streets of Rosedale, you will see exactly why it has this designation. The uniqueness and irreplaceable culture of these neighbourhoods is worth the preservation.
