Rathnelly is a picturesque little enclave of homes, situated at the bottom of the Avenue Road Hill. It is home to a large number of artists, academics, writers, and media people so naturally the residents are known to organize one-of-a-kind street festivals (annually or when the mood strikes!). Rathnelly neighbourhood made headlines in 1967 when residents playfully declared themselves as an independent republic of Canada, equipped with an elected Queen. Celebrations continue to this day with an annual street party. The streets are lined with impressive detached and semi-detached Victorian homes dating back to 1880 and 1910, along with the equally amazing canopy of silver maple trees. Within the neighbourhood you will have access to a small pocket of exclusive shops and restaurants as well as community centres and nature trails.
