Once more Toronto is leading the way when it comes to reducing our environmental impact.

The City of Toronto and the Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited have recently launched the first phase of a program which will outfit buildings across Toronto with more than 8,800 solar PV (photovoltaic) panels. The first three buildings will be Mimico Arena, York Mills Arena, and Goulding Park Community Centre.

The energy from these panels will filter into Toronto Hydro’s electrical grid, which will produce over $16 million in gross revenue for the city over the next 20 years. The panels will generate approximately 2600 megawatt hours annually, and will result in the reduction of about 480 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually.

Not only will this help support the growth of solar energy in the province of Ontario, it means we will reduce our environmental impact and have improved air quality, which is something all of us city dwellers can get excited about!
